Online search is simple: just type what you are looking for in the search box, hit Enter or click the Search button, and your search engine (Google/Yahoo/Bing) will search the web for content that's relevant to your search. Most of the time, you'll find exactly what you're looking for with just a basic query (the word or phrase you search for). However, sometimes when looking for specific things online you are inundated with search results that are too general. In such cases it helps to know some tips and tricks of online search.
Here we have described a few tips for search within Google. However, these same tips are also useful for other search engines like Yahoo and Bing.

You have less than 10 seconds to capture the interest of a visitor to your website. If your website takes more than 2 to 4 seconds to load, you have already lost half of your unique visitors. So in addition to having a good web design, it is also important to make sure that website loads fast. (Read our blog on "Characteristics of a good website"). In the world of web design, there are two basic ways most freelance web designers and firms charge: per hour or per project. As the CEO of a web design firm, I work with both clients and freelance contractors. So I see this tug of war at both ends. When a new client approaches us for a project, their first question is usually "how much is it going to cost?". We normally charge our clients on a per project basis. However, I often come across clients who insist on knowing the per hour pricing. Somehow, they feel better when they hear a small hourly rate. These are usually the bargain hunters who often go with the freelance web developer or offshore web design firms who quote a ridiculously low hourly rate. I have heard of rates as low as $5 per hour. The part of the information that is missing here is the number of hours it would take to complete the work. Clients will often sign on with these designers thinking they’ll save money, until that $20/hour web designer takes five times longer to do everything than the designer charging $60/hour and the quality is also compromised.

A blog is low cost and effective way for businesses to communicate with its customers. There are basically two types of blogs - personal blog and business blog. A personal blog is an update of what is happening in your life, your thoughts and opinions. Personal blogs are especially fitting for businesses that cater to improving people's lives. For example, a personal blog will not be out of place on the website of a personal trainer, life coach or a financial adviser. In these cases it is possible to incorporate valuable information within personal blog. The personal aspects of the blog will help you establish that human connection with your customers, which is invaluable. A business blog on the other hand provides value to its customers by sharing the business expertise and knowledge. At the same time, it allows the business to keep their customers updated on upcoming events, products and any other news that they wish to share. Both these blog types have their respective use in a business website and a choice between them depends entirely on the type of business. As long as you can keep the content focused enough to provide information and value to your customers, they will keep coming back for more.
